Head full of water

It's such a terribly busy life, isn't it? Or, init?, as Londoners say. There's been so much I've wanted to blog about. Like, Thom Yorke's new album (amazeballs), some gigs I saw on Saturday, new music from here and there and just life in general. But the days pass by and I hardly have time to sit down. I work 2 jobs, I work out, I drink too much coffee and coconut water. Yesterday I baked these amazing vegan cupcakes and I ate way too many. Starting to feel quite fat now after weeks of eating. Pitiful.
Looking forward to the weekend so much! I'm finally doing CrossFit again on Saturday! So excited! And we're going to Brixton.
Last Saturday I was in New Cross with some friends. First we hung out at New Cross Inn, listening to a couple unknown bands. The second was quite good actually, they're called Reckless Ambition. I was expecting some indie from them, so I was quite surprised they played hard rock. I really liked the singers voice. I had a little chat afterward with him and he told me Guns 'n Roses is a big source of inspiration for him. Here's a track from them..

And sorry, no inspirational blogging here. I'm quite uninspired today. I just want to listen to music and zone out. I went to bed 9 PM last night again, and slept a solid 9 hours. Got up, went swimming, got two coffees, a green smoothie, a liter of coconut water and plain water and drank it all in 20 minutes. Story of today. Perhaps I have drowned myself.

Maybe we could just leave this place for good

First listen on NPR: Electric Youth - Innerworld. Click HERE to listen to the full album. I must say I'm liking everything I'm hearing on this radio. Definitely fits my Monday afternoon/evening mood. Electric Youth is a duo made up by Austin Garrick and Bronwyn Griffin. They've been dating since 8th grade. Cute huh?
Hope you guys like this album too!
On another note, today's been good. Work was nice and then I went swimming, which was awesome. I love the water. I miss the ocean and so just being able to swim in a pool and imagine I'm closer to the ocean is exactly what I need right now. Tomorrow I think I'm going to go swimming right away in the morning. Hopefully it'll be less people there then too. Probably not, but it's worth a try.

Hope you have an awesome week, now I'm going to hang out with my roomies for a while.

Moving past the feeling

This is a song I always seem to go back to. I was first introduced to it while listening to my all time favorite program All Songs Considered on NPR. Just listen to the lyrics, it's so painful it made me cry the first 5 times I listened to it. I think it still does that, if I let it.
The reason to me posting this song is hearing about my long lost love, or whatever fancy sounding cliché I should call that mess of a crush that ended up being nothing, got married. And it's not like I still have feelings, that was only for a little while, during a very confused time of my life, but it's so weird finding yourself in that situation where you know there's absolutely no chance left of ever being with that person, whether or not you want to. I guess I'm still confused of my feelings for this particular person. This is a person I pretty much grew up with, so you could say there's a lot of history. But those days are long gone now. And I'm sure our lives are better like this. Everyone has those what if moments sometimes and the more I think of the what if, the happier I am that things are as they are now. Life is too short to be stuck with a person who's not right for you.

Ok what a piece of chick lit this turned out to be. One of those days. Maybe I should do a whole week of heartbreak music.
Jk.
I have my moments though.

Excuse me, princess

Crushing

Friday, yay. It's been a good week at work. I'm learning lots of stuff. And I'm becoming a professional Twitter stalker. In the future I can write that on my CV. Professional Twitter-stalker. Should come in handy, don't you think? Also, going out in London is very cheap. Especially if everyone else is buying rounds.
So to celebrate Friday I think we're gonna need some awesome music. Therefore I present Lil Silva's DJ Set. Yo, dude, I'm in love with you ok!? Wanna go out on a date? Fancy going on a date with me? Because I would share my chocolate with you. That's how much I like you.

GUYZ, HAVE A TERRIBLY EPIC WEEKEND. I'll be back.

It will end in tears and I won't be sorry

Philip Selway, best known as Radiohead's drummer, has a new album, Weatherhouse, coming out in October. Here's the single It Will End In Tears.
I quite like it. It's the kind of song I'd like to listen to after a long day of work, feeling accomplished and happy. Regardless of the lyrics, the song has got this tranquil feeling to it, like saying "I'm moving on and that's pretty great". Does that make any sense?

We could spend a lifetime in a weatherhouse

Drowned in Angry Beats

This morning I put Vessel's new album on my playlist, after reading reviews stating "Fans of Massive Attack will like this album", which obviously got my hopes up high in the skies. But after the first listen of the album, I was not impressed.
So this afternoon I gave it another try and it sounds better when I'm not expecting a Massive Attack sound. Not too bad. Anima (below) is in fact really good. Quite heavy and uneasy music I'd say. A bit angry maybe. Kin to Coal is my favorite track on the album.

"What does 'Englishness' in music really mean?" is the question Vessel is apparently trying to answer with this album.
Read a review here.
